New Orleans Redevelopment Authority Façade Renew Program Wins Louisiana Landmarks Society Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) has been recognized by the Louisiana Landmarks Society for excellence in historic preservation, for its Façade RENEW program along four historic commercial corridors throughout the city. Among the eighteen Landmarks Society Award winners, NORA is the only public entity to receive this prestigious award.
Façade RENEW was launched in 2014 to provide reimbursable grants to commercial property and small business owners as an incentive to invest in the preservation and revitalization of their properties along Bayou Road, Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, Old Gentilly Road and St. Claude Avenue. 42 properties have received these grant awards and 21 have been completed thus far. NORA’s investment of $1.3 million has leveraged over $9 million in private investments.
“Façade RENEW gives property and small business owners the opportunity to improve and enhance the appearance of their building’s facade. We are pleased that these investments have created such a positive and meaningful impact on these four (4) targeted commercial corridors and their surrounding communities. We truly appreciate the La. Landmarks Society for selecting NORA as one of this year’s award recipients and for recognizing the importance of this program,” Breaux said.
Improvements made through the program include painting, exterior repairs, lighting and signage and in some instances, complete storefront rehabilitations.
