NORA Green

The NORA Green program is NORA’s green infrastructure program. NORA strategically invests in its property based on location and potential community impact. Projects that have been completed in NORA Green include community parks, urban forests, alternative landscaping sites, and stormwater management projects.

Stormwater Management

NORA has converted ten (10) vacant lots across the city into stormwater management lots which divert and detain stormwater during rain events to diminish the strain on the pumping system and prevent street flooding. Collectively, the sites detain up to 209,960 gallons of stormwater every time it rains.

NORA is also working with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans and the Department of Public Works to provide multiple lots for neighborhood-scale projects in Pontilly, Oak Park, and Broadmoor.

Urban Forest

NORA has created several urban forests across the city by planting native trees on vacant lots in neighborhoods to restore the city’s tree canopy, improve air quality, combat noise pollution, and provide a passive greenspace for neighbors to meet and reflect. Collectively, the six major urban forest sites are home to over 500 native trees.
